The
pebble beach of Guvano at
Corniglia, near Levanto, was
famed in the 1970s as one
of Italy's few nude beaches.
It's in the region of La Spezia,
about halfway between Genoa
and Pisa, just off the A12
Genova-Livorno motorway. Close
to the popular tourist spot
of Cinque Terre (Five Villages)
on the Ligury Coast. Descend
a steep path that leads from
the Corniglia-Vernazza railway
track or pay to go through
the unused train tunnel. See

The
main nude beach on Isola d'Elba
is situated on the southern
coast of the island where you
can find two naturist areas
at the end of the long beach
of Lacona. |
Apparently,
Napoleon Bonaparte's sister
Pauline loved to swim in the
nude off the coast of Isola
d'Elba and one of its beaches
was named La Paolina in her
honour. |

part of the Parco
Regionale della Maremma (click
for map), is located 25km South
of Grosetto town, near the Ombrone
river. Pay for parking at the
offices near Alberse village (costs
about 4 euros) and try to park
in the often full Marina di Alberese
car park. Walk along the beach
in a southerly direction for about
1.5km to reach the nude beach
area. There is also a bus shuttle
service every 30 minutes between
Alberese and Marina di Alberese.
The ticket cost 1,20 euros in
Summer 2004. |
NOTE:
This is the nude beach where two
naturists were arrested by the
local police in July 2002 for
sunbathing naked about 2km south
of the crowded part of the beach.
They were subsequently cleared
of charges of indecency in June
2003 and since then naturism has
been considered legal on parts
of this beach and on many other
secluded beaches in Italy. More
details about the acquittal (in
Italian). |

Costa Verde is a very long, sandy stretch of beach on the South West coast of Sardinia. It is also very peaceful, perhaps why the Costa Verde is dubbed 'the silent coast'. As it is rarely crowded, it's fairly easy to practise naturism in the nude beach area towards the South end of the beach. |
