Fish Point Lighthouse, Port Alfred, SA - Official Nude Beach
Fish Point Lighthouse nude beach is situated 24km from the town of Port Alfred, below the Great Fish Point Lighthouse. It has been given official status as a nudist beach. You can park at the lighthouse but be prepared for a very steep walk down to the beach. Despite being an official nudist beach, Fish Point Lighthouse beach is seldom frequented by naturists, perhaps because of its isolated and windswept location and lack of facilities.

PORT ALFRED NUDE BEACH REPORTS:

  1. The beach is situated below the Great Fish Point Lighthouse approx 24 kilometers out of town. If you get lost Port Alfred Tourism will gladly assist you to get there. - SANFED (February 2006)

  2. The Beach below Fish River Point Lighthouse is supposedly the only official nudist beach in South Africa. Port Alfred is the nearest town, but the Tourist Office there didn't know whether it still held that status or not. To get there drive about 20kms towards Fish River from Port Alfred and look for the Fish Point Lighthouse turning on the right. The dirt road is rough in places and about 3 kms long ending at the lighthouse. If you go a lighthouse tour is well worth the cost. The keeper gives a brief history of SA lighthouses and unlocks the lighthouse so you can climb to the top. The views are amazing - not least the beach that looked very inviting. Unfortunately this beach is rarely visited by anyone (nudist or textile) and the path to the beach has collapsed. We erred on the side of caution and gave the beach a miss. - Tony Smith (April 2011)

Secrets Nudist Beach, South Africa - Unofficial Nude Beach
Secrets Beach, near Port Elizabeth, is an unspoilt one kilometre stretch of golden sand that shelves gradually into the sea and is backed by sand dunes. To get there, turn off Marine Drive into the Cape Recife Nature Reserve and follow the instructions given by Tony Smith in the special report below.

SECRETS BEACH SPECIAL REPORT:

  1. We were the only people on the beach midweek and on two consecutive days had the beach to ourselves. Apparently it is very popular with nudists on Sundays, but when we were there midweek we were the only people there (see photo above)! To get there you turn off Marine Drive into the Cape Recife Nature Reserve. Thirty-six Rand will get you a permit valid for a vehicle and 4 people for 7 days. Drive on past the Bird Hide then take the right hand turn. Note the "modified" Blockhouse on the right of this road and other ruined WWII coastal defence buildings. At the end of this road id the Pati/Secrets Beach parking area. A 20 minute walk from here, across shingly sand, gets you to the beach area mentioned above. The rusted boiler that can be seen above the waves just off shore is all that remains of the Pat, a Cypriot cargo ship wrecked in dense fog on Thunderbolt Reef in 1976. A word of caution, we were in Port Elizabeth for four windless days, however, PE is not known as the "windy city" for nothing and others may not be so lucky! - Tony Smith (April 2011)
